The Stansted Park Light Railway is a 7 and a quarter inch gauge miniature railway in the grounds of Stansted House in Hampshire situated next to the Stansted Park Garden Centre.

It runs 850 yards through the Arboretum, past a 12 foot span girder bridge and a 3 platform station. There is also a 6 road engine shed and workshop, plus a turntable. The railway will take you on a lovely circuit that will provide enjoyment for all ages.

The railway opened in 2005, with quite humble beginnings, but over the years, the number of volunteers involved has grown, along with the locomotive fleet, which has 1 steam loco, 2 petrol hydraulics and and hybrid (electric/petrol) locomotive. Please be aware that while the railway is totally family friendly, children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

If you fancy making a day of it, there is the Edwardian House and Grounds of Stansted Park, with a Grade II Listed country house set on a 1800 acre estate within the South Downs National Park.

What Our Customers Say

A really tranquil spot in the country side, the little train, trundles from the mini station, through hedge rows and around the gardens and back to the station via the woodlands trail. Such a stunning place on a summers day.
Fantastic little railway, run by a friendly and very enthusiastic group of volunteers. Visited a few times, much to the delight of my two year old great grandson who simply loves riding on and watching the trains. Volunteers are super helpful, there are even provisions for disabled people to ride the train. A lovely trip out with little ones - lots of fun too for big people (we get to ride too with or without little ones!)
Steaming around the grounds of Stansted Park for nearly 20 years!
